FUR CARE GUIDE

MINKY'S FURS is your Full Service Furrier on the Peninsula. We provide sales, cleaning and glazing, repairs, restyling, cold storage on premises and appraisals. The guidelines below will help you to maintain the beauty of your fur for many years to come.

  • WEAR your fur often. The body's heat helps to maintain the fur's shape.

  • Give your fur enough room in your closet so the fur is not crushed and air can circulate around it. Never store your fur in a plastic bag. The plastic does not let the fur breathe and will cause the leather to dry out.

  • Never leave your fur near heat. Heat will dry out the leather's oils. Hang your fur in your coldest closet. Remember, furs LIKE cold.

  • If your fur gets wet, shake it out promptly to remove extra wetness and let air dry. Never use a heater or blowdryer. Most furs can stand a little rain or snow with no problems. If your fur gets soaked all the way through, bring it to MINKY'S FURS immediately for professional care.

  • Friction can cause excessive wear on a fur. Be careful of shoulder bag straps rubbing a worn spot on your fur. Also, the leaning of elboys on the table, etc. This will occur more often with a long haired fur.

  • Do not put perfume or spray hairspray directly on your fur. The alcohol will stiffen the guard hairs and dry out the leather. Never use chemicals or moth repellent on your fur.

  • To keep your fur in the best shape, have it cleaned and glazed at least once a year. This should be done at the same time you store your fur so it will be ready for the next season. Cleaning and glazing will remove dirt, keep the leather supple and the fur shiny. It will also help to revive a dull, matted fur.

  • You will find that some shedding may occur with many new garments, especially the long haired furs. This is completely natural and nothing to be concerned about. Shake your fur out frequently and after about a month, shedding should stop. Having your fur cleaned and glazed will also help to stop shedding.

  • We recommend that you store your for in a professional furrier's cold storage vault during the summer months. Cold storage will help preserve your fur's condition and protect your valuable investment. MINKY'S FURS has a cold storage vault on our premises for your convenience.

Above all, enjoy your fur and wear it with confidence.

Remember, fur is a renewable resource, environmentally safe and always beautiful!
